I also wasn't very convinced by the argument given in the article. So what if people copy you? If hell froze over and ATS became some kind of awesome, people would start trying to copy that too...and what then?

The point is, Linkin Park is unique. The sound that they produced on earlier albums has never, in my opinion, been matched.I've said it before but we saw a nice bit of evolution on the MTM album in tracks like Given Up and No More Sorrow and even Bleed It Out and What I've Done. New Divide was great. Blackbirds was great. But none of this is on ATS. It's freaking dumfounding and I really dont get it - at first I thought ATS was maybe a joke before the awesome album was released but this isnt the case.

So ok, they released some kind of artistic thing, or whatever. Fine. Cool. But the other thing that irks people is that THAT is what they got after years of waiting. And its like "aww man....seriously....you're going to make me wait on average another 3 years before you MAYBE decide to release an album with more than 2 decent tracks on it?" People are losing alot of faith in the band because of this, realising that there is a chance now that they will never actually deliver anything better than what they have delivered. They've peaked. And its all downhill from here.........i think people are moving that way in their thoughts on LP. I am anyhow.

Hmm...

I've been a fan of LP since Hybrid Theory and yes, their sound was powerful and unique but keep in mind that was roughly 10 years ago. The band was a lot younger then and hidden in all the hard beats and guitar riffs were lyrics that screamed 'me me me, I'm so depressed, nobody gets me etc...' and don't get me wrong, I loved hybrid theory and meteora but I was relieved when they released M2M that although the sound was similar, a lot of the songs were not so focused around personal 'nobody gets me' lyrics.

As for 'A Thousand Suns', since I'm not narrow minded and solely listen to only one genre of music but a wide variety, I think it is musical genious. Yes, there isn't as much guitar and yes, it might not be one 3 minute song after another but it still has a Linkin Park vibe. I respect a band that has the balls to experiment with other things and not limit themselves because what they did in the past was popular. 'A Thousand Suns' sounds a lot like late Nine Inch Nails if I had to find a comparison, and that is no bad thing. Trent Rezor is a great artist. The new album flows very nicely from beginning to end and i find it easy to get lost in. I would even go as fa as to say it's a concept album with a lot of hidden meaning in it There are still loud songs on there like 'Wretches and Kings' and 'Blackout' but I fin it impressive that they have found a way to keep the same impact without the use of conventional instruments.

So yeah... listen more carefully to the album as a whole and appreciate it. If it really isn't for you then go back to listening to thier old albums. No big deal.

I wholeheartedly agree Mike, well put.
Shawn, as for what you spent on the album, it's called ebay, and craigslist. If you don't want the album, sell it. It was just released. I'm sure there will be no problem getting rid of it.
Of course, if you are too lazy to bother doing that, and I guess if it makes you feel you're entitled to complain, then it's your prerogative to lose $20, but you did have a choice.
Also Mark, it's your choice to wait for another album, Linkin Park didn't ask you to put your life on hold for them, after all.
Personally, I've heard a lot more good opinions than bad, the good opinions are outweighing the bad 20-1 right now.
So while I appreciate that you don't like the album, and don't want to try and force it on you in any way, I would suggest making blanket statements about people hating an album that is #1 on more than 5 countries' music charts at this very moment, is pretty ridiculous.
