Everything i LOVE about A Thousand Suns
The Requiem: the first time i heard this... 1:30 am 9.14.10. it was dark in my house, the is the kind of song where you can imagine it, if anyone knows what fallout is then theyll understand, of course its a girls voice which makes it all the better, what i love about this song is that its eerie to the point where a little torn up half radiotized girl is walking toward you saying basically that this world is in horrible shape and we need the hands of god to help us through these tough times, i love the creativity used in it, as well i get the bone chilling feeling of a heart beat sensor as if time is running out.
The Radiance: i love the idea that Linkin Park decided to put speeches in their new album, it makes it what it is, im not gonna lie im not sure too much what this speech is about but from what i hear from the elderly man, i think its really cool.
Burning In the Skies: nuclear bomb? going off? the blood of innocence burning in the skies? or maybe just warfare its self, i thought maybe a mushroom cloud, i could be wrong, but i love this song.
Empty Spaces: sounds like a warfield, i hear gun fire, but what it goes into.....
When They Come for Me: this is like no other rap Mike has ever done, i honestly like it cause its creative, i am not a robot i am not a monkey, i will not dance even if the beat is funky, that just shows that this is them they like it, everyone wants the next thing to be just like the first, and dont get me wrong i love their old stuff, but truthfully i love all their stuff.
Robot Boy: i haven't figure out what i love about this song, but really, its so pure.
Jornada Del Muerto: Lift me up... Let me go.... in Japanese? thats freakin sweet!
Waiting For The End: sounds slightly like Fort Minor, which is awesome, cause i like the idea of Fort Minor with Linkin Park.
Blackout: i love how the song builds up to Chester screaming them mixing the screaming which is uber cool, and then soft Mike voice.
Wretches and Kings: holy crap... play this song really loud! or hear it live like i did, then youll know what i mean!
Wisdom, Justice, and Love: yet another speech about the past and what happened, i love how they creatively made it go from a mans voice to a robotic mans voice.
Iridescent: its releasing, this is a song that was beautifully made, this is why i LOVE Linkin Park because they know how people feel, and thats why people LOVE their music.
Fallout: Radiation from nuclear warfare is what disorients the human body and majorly effects you, thats why this is a robotic voice, this line that he sings swimming in the smoke is pretty much what i think as swimming in the radiation, it hurts you.
The Catalyst: i love this song to death because its basically about the earths last day and how everyone is panicking, and it builds up to an awesome explosion with singing and well put drums, every element in nature needed is used to put this master piece together.
The Messenger: this world is a hurtful place, when life leaves us blind, love keeps us kind. its so true too.
All together i absolutely love Linkin Park and their new album A Thousand Suns. I love you guys! Thank you for this beautiful work of art! i love it!

Also, the speeches are important to the album.
The first, in The Radiance, is J.Robert Oppenheimer, the scientific of the Manhattan Project which developed the first nuclear weapons during WW2: "If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the mighty one." and "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds."
The second, in Wretches & Kings, is a speech I loved before they ever used it.
It was paraphrased in a very powerful scene in Battlestar Galactica by one of my favourite characters, which always moved me.
It is Mario Savio, a political activist and leading member of the Berkeley Free Speech Movement. The speech was made on the steps of Sproul Hall, at the University of California in Berkeley, during a protest to try and span more communication between the campus and it's leaders, and defend the students right to free speech.
His last action during that protest was to stand on top of a police car and say to the crowd "I ask you to rise quietly and with dignity, and go home", and that's what they did.
I find his courage inspiring, and the context of that speech makes sense within the album and the song.
The last speech is from Martin Luther King, Jr., made on April 4, 1967, at a meeting of Clergy and Laity Concerned at Riverside Church in New York City, it was an opposing view to the Vietnam war.
It's worth doing some reading on him if you don't know who he is.
Now that you know a little more about these parts, I hope it gives the album more cohesiveness for you, as it does for me.
I think the songs combined with these ideals make the album a darkly beautiful landscape, and feel raw with the emotion of it.

That was beautiful, and more inspiring than i had imagined, it seems as though we are all on the same page as Linkin Park is with out lives, of course your here because they have tremendously inspired you, i really appreciate that you took your time to explain to me what these speeches meant. it helps me further understand the songs within the album more, and better understand what they mean. i really think that the name 'A Thousand Suns' is perfect for this album because it fits it so well, im glad that we had similar matches with some of the songs! write back please! id enjoy talkting!

I know, it's a pretty incredible and poweful way to deliver something filled with so much sadness and frustration.
Not the speeches were not written to inspire hope anyway, but I think the album delivers that hope with so much more clarity than the speakers did.
I'm glad you appreciated my explanations, it's not often someone appreciated the intricacies of something the way I do, and I love that you do.
It makes me smile that people hate the album name, because they don't understand the meaning of where it came from.
Rather than get upset at their ignorance, I choose to feel good about my own open-mindedness and acceptance of something so different from that which I would normally make a choice to listen to.
I guess others don't pay as much attention to their history or the things that shaped our world as much as Linkin Park do, and obviously expect us to do.

Jornado Del Muerto is "Lift Me Up, Let Me Go" In Japanese.
Also, the ending to Wisdom, Justice and Love; from that I get a feeling of melting towards the end when the affects change MLK Jr.'s voice. I take it as a feeling that the hopeful words he is saying are contorted and twisted by a world on the verge of cataclysm. My take.

Hey, check out what i learned today. Jornado Del Muerto, In spanish means "single day's journey of the dead man". It is a 100 mile long basin which is a barren, desolate landscape that is unforgiving. Its reputation for causeing alot of problems and deaths for colonists and conquers during early colonization earned the name "Route of the Dead Man".
Now check out this Epic correlation! On July 16, 1945 the Jornada del Muerto was the site of the first atomic bomb test. Also known as the Trinity Site.
Talk about incredibly layered meaning, blew me away when I read that. Linkin park Rules!

I've never had a problem with intricately layered vocals or a bit of piano in my music.

Great to see some people who enjoy the new album as much as i do, from start to finish first time i played it i just loved it. Didnt feel like i was waiting for a good part to come in a song, or for the bridges between the songs to end, it just flows so wonderfully from beginning to end taking listeners on a journey.
Listening to it just gives me a real feel good, feeling :)

everyone has really in depth reviews and i agree with them all! personally i see the entire album as a story about the end of the world, the atomic bomb going off "blood burning in the skies" the people themselves being incinerated, "robot boy" is beautiful, definately different from any other song i have ever heard, to me its like a single person among the carnage having their final thoughts.. all the powerful speeches corresponding with human arrogance, how we shouldnt have always fought amongst eachother and this is what it has caused, the "minutes to midnight" has finally come and now the power of "a thousand suns" will be "i am become death, destroyer of worlds". just a totally fantastic album! :D
