Did he buy the package at Best Buy? If it's not Best Buy, then it is not brand new and is actually re-sold. Best Buy is the only store allowed to sell LPU packages.

This is no longer true. Best Buy no longer sells up to date LPU packages (any they have leftover is old). You need to renew from the website.

Yes, I noticed this as well. I got wrong information from a person, who then as well found out that these are not working anymore. Thank you for the update KATHYxx and sorry that I forgot to tell you about this after I found out. The only was to buy a membership now is to pay for it through the LPU website.
