Since I haven't found one of these yet I figured I'll make a poetry thread, where we could either share poetry/lyrics or discuss favorite poets or lyricists. To start off the thread I'll post one of my own pieces. Hope to see what everyone else's work and maybe learn about some other poets. Criticism is appreciated but lets be nice to each other about it :)

I'll share with you my heart
a desire unafraid
hushed with lullabys and older dreams
we're always in the same place

life/the key to living
love/the key to loving
I desire none but myself

and so I'll weep to you
dear reader and lost friend
that my heart holds
the stories of anger and hate
mistrust and my own shame
love and lost love
misplacement and sadness

I can't tell you why
these feelings of mine
are so down
cos you see
I only share with you my heart

sob stories are for the weak
and I can show no weakness
I already have too much
for the simple things I'll never have
in toy cars and choo choo trains

I share with you my heart
and lullabys that never rock me to sleep

I share with you my heart
cos it's all I really have left to give

Quiet Thunder

Something more than reaching into depths of silent waters
Deep and slowly flowing
Yet somehow seems all knowing
More than met the eye in one I only need to wonder
In distant quiet thunder

Somewhere in the man, it seems
A flashing bolt of lightning
So passive yet, so frightening

Easy to be awed in light of someone worth respecting
Paid to hear some swearing
It's curious and daring
A complex painted picture of the innocence we're under
The distant quiet thunder

Somewhere in the dark, I see
My vision wet and blurry
The calm before the fury

Social situations so enclosing I could smother
A need for conversation
To share imagination
The farther I would reach, my world in flames and torn asunder
A distant quiet thunder

Somewhere in the storm, a light
A quiet state of being
And all the world is seeing

"Breaking My Silence"

I'm a bisexual girl so confused
And I feel completely misused
Haters in this cold world is all about killing the LGBT community
Is this really true reality?
They call me like voices in my head
Haunting me wanting me to become so dead
But they can't break me - no one can
Because I am a beautiful woman
A part of the world so cold
But I won't die alone
Bring it on, I'm ending your anti-LGBT violence
For tonight, I break the silence.

(Fin.)
Amen.

Jaime: Your last piece was a definant improvement. Great job :) been a while since I've seen any new work from you on here as well.

Picture Knick-Knacks

glass toys on the shelf
porcelain knick-knacks
stacked high in cabinet rooms
shuffled around
dusted and cleaned
the picture on the corner
ageless but forgotten
the ancestral planes
a bloodline no longer
remembered

the man next to her
a smile on his face
were they in love
or were they siblings
they look married
but I'll never know
anyone who can remember
that time
is long since dead
but the woman and the man
a still frame image
forever immortalized thru time

will I be there one day
a long off descendant
staring at a picture of me
will I have my own wife
or will it be an empty frame
with only myself forever young
frozen in a brief seconds time

will I have a tale to tell
will I even have a picture to remember

I stare at the picture
the porcelain dolls and glass toys
age back with her
were they hers
maybe even her mother's
and what of her
what was she like
maybe she was loving
maybe she was not
a world I'll never know
a history never told

the porcelain dolls
the little glass toys
all knick-knacks far beyond
even my grandmother's age
they'll stay here forever
passed down thru time
fragile and easy to break
yet they're still here
and the mystery woman
in the photograph
has no story to tell
Where are thou, my love?
Can thy kiss help me rise above?
The midnight stroke is echoing in my head
Thus, our love is never dead
Where are thou, my soul?
Don't be a deceiver and leave thy demons alone
Make me yours for I will follow thee
Thus, it is thee that which I believe

I will love thee forever .

(Fin.)

Tell me what you think of this one.
Jaime....it was short and sweet...reminds me of romeo and juliet...lol

Echoes of a Memory
In the night
like echoes
of a shimmering star
in the darkness
we dance
romancing a memory

With whispers
for a heartbeat
overtaken by the thunder
seeking out solitude
within our minds

Lingering doubts
considered reality
now as we dine
fearing this memory

What do you guys think of this one?
love it! 2 thumbs up!

I think it's another great piece that you're always capable of writing Michelle :)

Colburn Park

Melodramatic
A lift to a helicopter
Brown--silently breathing

Resistance
A lift for needless crows
Pearl--silently heeding
Lies

Convince yourself there is a need

Deception is the balm

Not the weapon

Injuries sustained

By the truth

Not evasion

"Tell me the truth!"

A demand that no man wishes fulfilled

The truth

Unvarnished

Untainted

Unbearable

Lie

How sweet the lies we whisper

To ourselves

To others
Harriet...nice job...really enjoyed that one.

Sluggish..yours was really good as well would like to hear more!

Immortal Touch

Loves skin
paper-thin
like porcelain
deep rising eyes
draped in a sadness

An immortal touch
a caress through
a dream
insisting upon
my love

Drawing in near
conceived of dust
illusions of the unreal
a blur in the
vacant night

A ghost
of what once was
haunted
by you.

I like what you write Michelle. :D
I used to be a lot more prolific than I am now, the Lies poem just flowed out after I read the other work in this thread.
I'll post some other stuff if and when it comes.
I appreciate your feedback.
Sluggish...I think it's pretty cool that you would find inspiration from the work posted here!

Only Intrigued

Displaced within,
a nameless
shadow in the dark,
puzzled by my own reflection

Fierceness foreign to me,
bouts of distance
all lost to the tension

Mirrors ignorance
somehow won't tarnish

Covering the pain,
only to still
be bleeding

Intrigued by the chance
of the horizons
honor-bound light,
mysterious and colorful,
the beauty it hides
only acknowledged
by the moonlight

which poem did you like better Only Intrigued, or Immortal Touch?
