ON THE RISE

Born and raised on the gritty streets of Detroit, Rod B Gutta is a survivor in the rap game. With over a decade in the music business, Rod B Gutta started out with Side Show Productions/OtherSide, a group he co-founded with former partner Earl Smoov. An active participant in Detroit’s undeground hip hop scene, he was a fixture at local hot spots and later joined the group Live Action with fellow Detroit rappers Anguish(Chedda Boy Malik),P-Frown, Point, Fury, Jeff Brown, Sweetlife and P.A.M.

After a short stint in prison, Rod B Gutta refocused his energy and embarked on a solo career. Ever the businessman, Rod B Gutta started his own record company, Myself Entertainment, signing himself as the first artist. In 2008, he released the mixtape Who Iz Rod B? His debut mixtape was well received by fans and became a catalyst for his career. Keeping the momentum going and building on the buzz from the first mixtape, Rod B Gutta dropped Who Iz Rod B: Reloaded, hosted by DJ Sakrafice in 2009.

Rod B Gutta released Building Anticipation at the top of this year. Hosted by DJ Bruce Wayne, the album featured guest appearances from La The Darkman, Willie the Kid, Detroit native Al Nuke and super producer Zaytoven. Building Anticipation caught the attention of executives at Expat Records. Rod B Gutta recently signed with Expat Records, home to Kool & The Gang, and will release an album in the fall.

“I love what I do and I’m excited to be working on my Expat Records debut,” says Rod B Gutta. “Ever since I picked up a mic, I haven’t been able to put it down. Once I started concentrating on my solo career, there has been no stopping me. Music has always been a part of my life and anyone who hears my music knows this is what I was meant to do.”

Rod B Gutta is keeping his eye on the prize, continuously putting in the groundwork and laying down the foundation to support a solo career. In his experiences in the music industry, he realizes the importance of networking in Michigan and has started his own movement, Michigan Militia, which calls for unity and support among fellow artists.

“We have to support each other,” says Rod B Gutta. “Being an artist from Detroit and being a part of the underground scene for so long, I realized how crucial it is for us stay connected to each other. The goal of Michigan Militia is to be the support system that is so desperately needed. My top priority is my solo career but that doesn’t mean I can’t show love to others out there in Michigan.”

Throughout his career, Rod B Gutta has opened up for some of the biggest names in hip-hop and R&B, including Jay-Z, Beanie Siegel, Rick Ross, Xhibit, Trina, Lil Scrappy, Shawty Lo and Monica. He has also collaborated with a variety of artists like Royce Da 5’9, MC Breed, Proof, Obie Trice, Dreadnaughtz, Supa MC, Konplict, Shi Dog, Double Platinum, Ghostwriterz and Gutta Boyz. After ten plus years in the music industry, Rod B Gutta is ready to bask in the spotlight.
