I have loved LP for 9 years, I was in 3rd grade, and over the years I listened to every cd they put out. Whether it be studio, remix, live.....anything! I had it. I memorized all their songs and watched the Live in Texas so much I damn near memorized Chester's moves on stage. I dealt with the BS of people saying they sucked and they weren't a real band, but I didn't care because they were MY favorite band. And then they gave me....excuse me...US they give US this...song???? Can it be called a song?? Or how bout we label it..."The sign that LP sold out...HARD!!!" What is up with this techno/electric vibe?? They used to be the definition of nu metal and creativity. All their songs were amazing and they had amazing energy on stage. Even when I was watching the Road to Revolution dvd I was like "Wtf are they wearing..." They are pop culture sellouts now and it's horrible
R.I.P LP I give up....

I couldn't resist... So you're making it a point that if you're a fan or ever were that you have to put up with all the crap they release now? Mno thanks. I'm not that gullible. People grow out of things, that's normal, give or take a few years and you'll grow out of this too.
Also, your reason for liking the new album isn't valid. I like tons of different genres and what have you not. Hell, I enjoy rock, still do and always will, but I also like electro type music, psychedelic music, loungey stuff, classical music, some metal and even western type songs, I even like me some dance and popsongs from time to time, so don't go blabbing about and generalizing all the people that hate this new single by labelling them all as metal-lovers, because I'm sure not all of them are. I don't even like metal just for the screaming and growling that goes on it. So no, you're way off.

As for differentiating between "old" and "new", well, that's just the way it is, so live with it and let it go. Because there is an "old" and "new" linkin park. They've changed way too much. End of story.

Also, please, spellchecker friend. It's a handy tool, use it.

If your a Linkin Park fan you have to ride with them all the way no matter how they decide to change there music style. If not keep Hybrid Theory on repeat and don't listen to any of there music. I personally like there new single and that's because a listen to so many genre's that I can vibe with it. If you just love metal and screaming at the top of your lungs then your not going to like what there doing. I freakin' love everything they've done from the beginning to know. I'll ride with them till the end.
You people are complaining about an album that isnt out yet. Now I like the song, no its not my fave, I liked the changes, but no there not the best. Yes overall I like the Hybrid, Meteora, Fort Minor more but enjoy the entire discography from them as I have been listening since 1999.

Now just some FYI, the album looks like it is going to be awesome, good ratings from the insiders, and the descriptions of the songs sounds solid, some rap, rock, electro, choruses, combo... SOUNDS LIKE LP lol. IF THIS HELPS HERE IS A GOOD SUMMARY of what the album sounds like.

My review of ATS

ATS Pre-listening.

We entered a room with chairs and a couch where obviously Mike and Phoenix will sit.
They handed us wireless in-ear headphones so we could listen to ATS all on our own (the band wasnt there while we where listening to the album)
I won't say too much about the songs because I dont want to spoil it but what I can tell you is that you are going to be shocked.

Side Note: I couldnt clearly say when it was a new song, because they didnt pause to tell us the name and you hardly can hear it.

#1:
You can clearly say that It's a journey through an apocalyptical athmosphere and it's starting with a mysterious sound, similar to aliennoises and builds up into a keyboard play. This track is featuring a Choir and a female voice singing "Don't save us everyone, we are broken people living under loaded gun.." and ends with an original, digitally edited speech by Oppenheimer.

#2:
The second song begins with an heartbeat drum and is followed by a electric/pop guitar and Mike singing. The keyboard sounded like electro mixed with jazz elements and after that they sing "I'm loosing what I don't deserve" and the guitars fade out and you can only hear the keys and mike singing the end.

#3:
Starts with crickets and bombs in the background and later you can hear afican soldier marchsinging.
There is a sudden break in the song and a heavy distorted guitar fades in (I've never heard Brad playing such heavy guitars before) and a heavy rap rythm drops in.
Mike raps: "I'm not a robot, I'm not a monkey....."
And on this Linkin Park record, you hear Mike saying motherf**** for the first time ever (2x in the song) and what comes after that swearing is a perfect part for the crowd to sing (Ohhh's in the rythm to the heavy beat -> sounds like soldiers preparing for war)
It ends with chester singing: "When they come for me, I'll be gone" and the same african soldier marchsinging as the beginning (it also features some oriental music)

#4:
Starts with a Piano and Mike and Chester singing Ohhh
The genre reminds me of Soundgarden, older rock style
Chester singing "You say you're not gonna fight because no one's gonna fight for you"
And on this song (and also on the whole album) you can hear synthesizer strings and a similar fast drum beat as on the previous songs.
"Hold on to the weight of the world" is one of the main messages of this song.

#5:
Mike and Chester singing in another language (or english backwards) and followed by a guitar distortion and a drum beat in WID style.
It builds up slowly and fades out into an empty space.

#6:
Rough Guitar Intro (repeats 4x) followed by single key notes and on this track Mike is rapping in a reggae style but still fitting to the guitars. Another break fades in where it calms the speed of the song down and chester sings: "Waiting for the end to come"
A ballad tunes in and the whole song has a cruising (californian beach style) rythm )
* A song you can actually dance pretty well to it in the club*

#7: (WORST SONG)
Its starts with a synth organ pipe and is underlined with a fast drumroll. This song reminded me of the 80th Pop style with the cheap synthesizer keys but the most shoking was chester rapping the song really fast and (to me) awful.
And you think this song is going to be POP with Chester rapping, but in the chorus he screams his lungs out (Mike mentioned in an interview that he's loosing his mind)
This song is really weird and disturbing because the pop/rapping (autotuned) by chester don't fit at all to these crazy screams.

#8:
When the guitar fades in, it reminded me of a electro-rock/trash song by Marylin Manson and the beat was dubstep like.
And the song has a really fast speed but its being calmed down by mike singing in a soft voice "calm down" and it ends with another singing by Mike and Chester together.
We all somehow messed the tracklist up but I can cleary tell you

#10: Wretches and Kings
Starts with a public speech (obviously from the WWII era)
The guitar sounds very strange and the beats style is similar to the 2009 Lying From You Intro.
Mike is rapping on this one and chester sings with a very dirty (similar to skindred) voice and its another perfect song for the crowd to sing. On this track Joe is really present.

#11(must be wisdom justice and war)
A very sad keyboard intro with a historical speech by Martin Luther King. An unknown male voice says "the end is near" and turns slowly (by effects) to an evil-like voice.
(At the end you can hear MLK saying wisdom, justice and war)

#12: Iridiscent
Starts (again) with a piano to which mike sings in a sad voice (very emotional)
Chester joins Mike to it and the beat is similar to a one republic song (marching on)
-> To me it's a Pop Ballad (similar to SOTD) <-
The song ends with a choir by the whole band.

#13: Fallout
(reminds me of the song Buddha For Mary by 30 Seconds to mars -> the beginning with the distorted voice)

#14:
The Catalyst.

#15: The Messenger
Very similar to Hero Of War by Rise Against
Acoustic Guitar with chester singing: "When you feel you're alone, your instinct tells you to run.."
(I marked that chester became angrier with his voice)
The piano follows the acoustic guitar and chester repeats "Back home, where live/love keeps you blind...)

I'm really sorry that I can't remember everything really well and that I messed up the beginning but it was really difficult to hear whenever a new song is played.
About the guitar:
The guitar is mostly in the background, and has a lot of effects (Flanger, Disortion) but sounds totally different from MTM, HT and Meteora. Sometimes the whole beat stops and you can only hear the guitar.
About the singing:

With this album you say that Mike is the lead singer, and chester just the second voice. Because most of the time they sing the songs together (30% autotune) and on only 1 song chester is singing all alone.
About the album:

This album is mostly a new Fort Minor album featuring Linkin Park record. The drums sound all electronic and hip hop like, there is a lot of different percussion (e.g bushdrums) and as I mentioned before Mike is much more present than Chester.
Chester only screams 2x.

My personal statement:
This album totally blew my mind off. It doesnt sound like Linkin Park at all. If you carefully listen to all the remixes Mike has done (and also the intros of WID/Ambulance, LFY) you could compare this style to the new album.

Linkin Park risks a lot with this totally different direction and fans will either love it or hate it.
I do like it, and you cant tell the genre because it features so many. It sounds like:
Soundgarden, Muse, Metric, 30 Seconds To Mars, Rise Against, Dr.Dre, Eminem, Pendulum, Dubstep, Electronica etc. etc.

I hope this review didnt confuse you too much. It is really really hard to describe the new album and I can't compare it to a specific style.

edit: You cant just put the CD in and listen to track 9 or 10. You actually have to hear it from the beginning on...otherwise you would be lost. The album is like a Map, Book, adventure...
Sorry spelling bee champ I'll spell check next time. If you don't like the NEW Linkin Park don't listen. Plain and simple. I'm tired of people complaining about LP changing. Keep Hybrid Theory on rotation and your world will be A OK. There are other bands to listen to. Unbelievable...I'm getting insulted by JOHN MARSTON...

so you've heard it?
or got this from somewhere else?
and did the songs go in order how they appear on the track list?

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh no.3 sounds like it's going to be amazing. that should be 'Burning in the Skies'.
and you didn't like 'Jordana del Muerto' (no.7)? hm.
i know it's all down to opinion and whatnot but i don't like the sound of that one, as you've described it.
screaming and pop? umnothanks.

but where's no.9; 'Blackout?'.
well that one doesn't matter as much as we've heard a little preview on LPTV i guess.

well i hope that's like, real, and i'm not being a total idiot.
how did you hear it?

I hate those people who are saying that the new song sucks... i also watched and search videos threads and many more on other websites and i encounter many people who says that their song is not cool... I TRULY HATE THEM!!! THEY'RE THE ONE WHO SUCKS!!! Shit!!! LP is so damn well!!! Why can't they see it?! ARGHH!!!! LP IS SO COOL!!! They were so stupid making those bad comments...
i don't think that lp sucks.....LP were rockstar,they r rockstar,ad they will be rockstar................love u LP
I'm not insulting anyone, friend. I just get annoyed when people generalize things and assume that all the people who hate it are metal heads or something. Though you go off and do the same thing. I never even did a spelling bee thing. Though I might probably win it lol. I was just trying to get my point across as to why your statement is invalid.
I don't listen to hybrid theory anymore. I've grown out of it. And I listen to their new singles just to see or hear what has changed this time around. See it as, giving them another chance.
And the last line is just full of WIN. I get sent back almost 100 years after I died just to haunt a dead board. Not exactly exciting, now is it?

Number 9 on album is aka blackout where the reviewer didn't like the fast autotunet rap by chester or that mite b the song robot boy. I think I will love that one and the entire album from what I've heard and the reviews. No I didn't review it, its from ana from lpassociation, she gets all the albums b4 there released shese in germany and helps us out on the board all the time.. Shese on ustream too. The album is about 50 minutes long.

If you just love Metal, you are going to take all LP CDs and put them in the microwave. Seriously, stop labeling it as Metal, use Nü-Metal ( although this expression is as correct as saying LP are chips. )

Everyone who has decent taste in metal music won't listen to this (especially MTM and TS or even Metora). Hybrid Theory is only okay, because this was really sth. new, fresh, great at this time and not because of nü-metal. Nü-Metal overall has nothing to do with this heavy music. I don't give a fuck about what Wikipedia says, as many other people outside the Internet world and mainstream road do.
(Screaming is absolutely no indicator for metal or anything close to it, it's mostly likely related to Emocore or Metalcore.)

Metal lovers like atmospheric songs, complicated riffs and decent singing/growling and not a whinny Chester B, (he got a really good pop/rock voice though). His voice is simply too soft and Lp songs overall aren't that complicated and that expressive.

P.S. (Shinoda is cool, I like him. I want him to start a metalcore band with Rob and Brad xD).

--------------------------------------------------

@ thread starter: I'm happy about that at least someone opened his eyes to realize the selling out (: The excuse that they want "develop and to try out new stuff" was already used for MTM, so what's the excuse this time? I'm glad that I am not the only one who sees them running into the pop culture, and mostly, being mainstream.

for the record: I don't compare old LP/new LP, I compare super popular music to Linkin Park and the result is, that it sounds too similar. There's no creativity left and it reminds me of crappy Timberland.
sorry! :)

i agree actually, i loved the old linkin park, every song of theirs was/is amazing, but minutes to midnight was not that bad it was okay, but they have taken it to far, i seriously hate crap techno, btw all u haters, do like me insted of playing their new songs just reply all the old ones :D,

Born: May 1999 (Hybrid Theory EP) - Deceased: May 2010 (a thousand suns)

/p.s dont give up on linkin park alredy, go check out blackout freestyle, its their old kind of style. (we will see if lp goes into techno and pop, if so then u have the right to be a hater :P
YOu can read the review of the album and see there not going into freaking techno pop. They are growing as a band and doing new stuff all the time. None of there albums have been the same and have changed progressively. The sell out theory is just retarded, selling out would be making a hybrid theory two that everyone loved allready. They have Dead by sunrise, Fort minor, did stuff with jay z, there on movies, they had HT, METEORA and REanimation, Change up with M2M, have the best live shows ever with all the albums, what more do you want from these guys, they have done it all and keep progressing. This album will be off THE CHAINNNNNN.
