Doral has been the permanent home of this event, the first strokeplay tournament of the WGC season, for the last six years and the winners in that time have all been in the upper echelons of the world rankings.

Rose will be looking to follow up that unique success in 2013, where all the games modern day greats will be attendance.

Masters winner Bubba Watson came into the final day of last year’s Cadillac with a three-shot lead and looked a solid bet after holing a two-putt birdie on the first.

He then proceeded to complete a hat-trick of bogeys from the third, throwing the tournament wide open.

Rose gladly accepted the invitation and went on to card a closing round of 70 that gave him a 16-under aggregate and a fifth European Tour title.

It was his first for more than four years and made him only the third Englishman to secure a World Golf Championship after Ian Poulter and Luke Donald, both of whom triumphed at the Accenture Match Play.

As well as being the biggest of his career to date, Rose’s victory was also record-breaking.

His three-shot winning comeback was the largest in the history of the Cadillac Championship, overtaking the two-shot deficits overturned by Tiger Woods in 2005 and Nick Watney in 2011.

The 60-man field this week combines players from the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking, the FedExCup, the Race to Dubai and other Tours’ Order of Merit standings, and there is no 36-hole cut.

Despite all the big names who will be in the field, including Tiger Woods, Luke Donald and Lee Westwood, much of the media focus during the tournament will be on two-time major champion Rory McIlroy.

After enduring a nightmare start to the season with his new Nike clubs, McIlroy walked off the course at last week’s Honda Classic, a tournament where he was defending champion, citing wisdom tooth ache after being seven over after eight holes of his second round and heading for a missed cut.

Rory was third in the Cadillac in 2012 and 10th the year before so he will hope to find some sort of form on the world stage with the major championships on the horizon.

Sky Sports will have live coverage of all four days of the Cadillac Championship with David Livingstone presenting all the action and analysis in the studio from special guests including Colin Montgomerie.

Ewen Murray will be part of the commentary team for the international feed alongside John Swantek and Craig Perks, with reports and interviews from Rob Lee and Tim Barter.

The World Golf Championship series consists of four tournaments – all of which will be shown exclusively live on Sky Sports throughout the year.
