The 2013 Super Rugby season will be the third season of the new 15-team format for the Super Rugby competition, which involves teams from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. For sponsorship reasons, this competition is known as FxPro Super Rugby in Australia, Investec Super Rugby in New Zealand and Vodacom Super Rugby in South Africa. Including its past incarnations as Super 12 and Super 14, this is the 18th season for the Southern Hemisphere’s premier transnational club competition.

The new Super Rugby season is almost upon us and the pressure is on the Chiefs to defend their title.
The Chiefs beat the Sharks in last year’s final to claim their maiden Super Rugby crown. But there will be plenty of competition for the Waikato franchise this time around, with the Stormers leading the charge.
The competition also opens it doors to new-boys Southern Kings, with the Eastern Cape franchise having replaced the Lions.
Super Rugby returns
The other Lions – of the British and Irish variety – will be in Super Rugby action, though, with games against the Australian franchises as part of their tour adding extra spice.
