The performance at the Griffith Park Observatory seems like forever ago. The show, and performance of The Catalyst for the MTV VMAs was the kickoff of our tour for A THOUSAND SUNS. Now, at the end of the tour and cycle, a moment of reflection is in order.
To be honest, we were really hurting at the end of it all. Earlier this week, I stumbled into the venue in Bangkok with my band mates, dumbfounded at our state: one man down from food poisoning, two arms in slings, a bruised hand, cuts all over, sleep deprivation, and motion sickness, on top of what would be another 7+ hour travel day.
A year before, at Griffith Park, this tour started with the release of an album that was challenging to make, and a challenge for fans to understand. We knew the road ahead was going to be difficult. There were exhausting tours, confused and angry fans, and bloodthirsty critics on the horizon. But that night in Thailand, before the show, those obstacles were in front of me in the realest way.
A year before, we knew what we were getting into. And we believed in our album, we were encouraged by the fans. As time went on, as some fans went away and others came along for the ride, I’m proud of the thing we all built together. The tour took us to amazing new places. The performances at Puerta De Alcala, Griffith Park, Red Square, Tel Aviv, Abu Dhabi, and Singapore (among others) were landmarks for the band.
And the fans in Bangkok helped us power through one of our most difficult shows, showing the love that Linkin Park fans all over the world are known for.
So at the end of it all, I just wanted to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank-you to my bandmates, our staff, road crew, and fans for making this tour and album cycle amazing. Thank you.
Now, time to go home and get back to work…

Comment by Yoshiko on September 27, 2011 at 1:37pm It is always things like this, Mike, that you do care about fans and you do bother to say things like this even when you are totally exhausted. Hope all of you including your hard working staff will have a really good rest and have a relaxing time with your family.
I am sure that all of us fans are proud to be LP fans. ATS is a great album and I had a wonderful time attending 4 gigs during this ATS tour. Many thanks, Linkin Park. Can’t wait for the next album, though. :)

Comment by Michał on September 27, 2011 at 12:54pm And I would like to join all this thank-givin comments. Ive been to show in Hamburg during A Ten Thousand Suns Tour n I have to say, that Linkin Park is the most amazing band playin live you can find in the world. Even when you expect Chester to sing a bit softly than he used to, and staying on the level, he sings a little bit softer, he still has amazing voice, he still can surprise us. Saying bout them like bout a kid, pretty nasty kid, they have grown up and Im so proud of them! Im sure not only me. Linkin Park as a band has always been my musical guide, unfortunatelly for other bands, because any time I hear anything different than LP im like: cmon, this guy sounds nothing like Chester!! And Im comparing any band to LP in general. Mike wrote that many fans came away but many joined... Guys, this band deserves what it got, in this positive way. I mean... not every band is brave enough to make such a change, from By Myself to The Messenger, which are for me two completely different songs. They turned 180 degree away with their style, and yet, I see them as amazing guys n I still love their music. Furthermore I realized that I not only sum up them for their music, but also for everything else they do. For how they changed, and made us all change! Thank you Linkin Park, and thank all of you who made through my comment to the very end and found strenght to read my long utterance. Thank you LP and I cant wait to see more from you :)
