I’m a student from Dubai United Arab Emirates; I study General Media in Dubai Women’s College. I’m doing a course of Short Film Production. My name is Atiya and I’m in the Year Two of my Bachelor Degree.
I’m sending you this E-mail regarding the usage of the song New Divide in a documentary that I’m working on. I will be very pleased if you grant me the copyrights of it, though it will be graded on me. This Documentary is going to be screened for school and I will participate in it in local film festivals.

Since it is a documentary, you don't need to any rights granted to use the song. As long as you state in your film that it is a documentary and give credit or a disclaimer stating that it is not your intention to infringe on any copyrights. You should be fine! Wish you a good grade!
